Saturday 17th November we are opening the doors to the Nelson & Tasman community to come and check out the club and the watersports opportunities on offer, so come on down and have a go at something on the water!

On arrival, please check in at the registration desk. Steph and Tim will also be around to answer questions about all our programmes and activities at the club.

All activities on the day are free of charge. We’ll have the following:

Topaz UNO Joyrides – ~15 minutes in a boat with an experienced sailor for a blast. This is suitable for 1 person per boat – they are probably not suited to those who are less mobile or less water confident.

Omega Joyrides – ~15-30 minutes sailing in a Topaz Omega. This is a bigger dinghy suitable for up to 4 adults and an instructor (it is actually rated for 7 people). We’ll have an instructor on board – taking you for a sail, and maybe even getting you steering etc… A full boat will be 30 mins, just a couple of people, 15mins

Tarlair Joyrides – ~15-30 minutes sailing in a Whiting 16 trailer sailer. We can fit 4 or 5 people in with an instructor and go for a cruise around the harbour. The boat is very stable and is well suited to those who are less water confident. We will be ferrying people from the pier to the boat in a powerboat. A full boat will be 30 mins, just a couple of people, 15mins

Windsurfing Tasters – Josh from Nelson Watersports will be running introductory sessions for windsurfing every half hour from 2pm.

Stand Up Paddleboarding – depending on the wind conditions and sea state, there will be hopefully Stand Up Paddleboards available to have a go on.

AFLEX Inflatable – AFLEX are providing an inflatable that will be anchored off the club. Anyone can swim out to it and have a play, but entirely at their own risk. There will be no supervision, so children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.

We will also have fundraisers such as a bake sale, sausage sizzle and raffle to raise money towards the continued rebuilding of the club after the storm surge of ex-tropical cyclone Fehi in February. So please bring a few $$!!

On the shore we’ll also have knot tying sessions, and rigging sessions every half an hour to an hour depending on demand.

Sailability Nelson will also showing off their Hansa boats and talking to people about how to get involved with sailing for people of all abilities, whether as a volunteer or as a sailor:
