23rd & 24th – Perfect Sailing Weather!

What a weekend, I’ve had a number of comments to the effect of “Wow! All the boats on the water looked so good on Saturday!”. What a great day for sailing it was. The Learn to Sail side of the club and the Club Racing activities were both super busy.

Junior Watersports Programme

A super busy morning, with all three groups making the most of the great conditions as a gentle breeze built over the course of the session. Many thanks to Steph, Courtney and Laura for your great work with your groups, and thanks too to all the parents sticking around and getting stuck in, helping out.

Adult Watersports Programme

Meanwhile, Emma and I were teaching an Adult Level 1 Course. Initially a short session in the Sunbursts, and then into the Topaz Unos for the afternoon. The water was so busy that we had to find a wee spot close to Haulashore Island.

The following day brough a drop in air pressure and the Sea Breeze was built quickly to 15knots plus. Challenging conditions for the beginner sailors and there was certainly a bit of capsize practise! However, reefed down, they had a great afternoon session and did fantastically well.

Saturday afternoon ran on into the evening for me, with some ladies out windsurfing and a windsurfing taster for a group of three backpacking friends. Well done to Tamara, Bryan and Sarah!

Club Racing

Once again, the departure of a vessel from Port Nelson meant that only one race was valid for the Flying Dutchman Fleet. Results here

Derrick and Andrew were running the Short Course Series for the Laser Fleet down towards the Island, and they managed to get in 10 short sharp races – good for starting practise, and a few more boats around when it came to the mark roundings… great fun!

The Optimist Open Fleet were without a trophy to sail for this weekend, so they joined the Green Fleet for some Teams Racing and it was great to see the more experienced sailors helping out the newer sailors!

Well done to Laura Allen who was awarded Sailor of the Day!!
