Believed to be the largest multi-class 2 day regatta in the southern hemisphere, the Sir Peter Blake Regatta is back for 2020
For
many, it’s the first major regatta they have sailed in and that’s
highlighted by the fact the Optimist Green fleet is usually the largest
of all the classes.
Close
to 500 sailors are expected this year, which is a big jump from the
first Sir Peter Blake Regatta, which started in 2002 with about 70
entrants.
The event will take place at the Torbay Sailing Club from 5 to 6 December.
There will be heaps of prizes to be given away. You must be at the regatta to receive these.
Many
sailors will be hoping to get their name on the Sir Peter Blake
Memorial Trophy, which is awarded for outstanding achievement throughout
the weekend.
This
year, event updates will be posted and sent using Team App, which can
be found on the App Store and Google Play. In order to receive
notifications, you must sign up and request to join the team by
searching for “Sir Peter Blake Regatta” and tapping the banner on the
home page. This will also be used as the regatta’s official noticeboard.
Please see the attachments for the Notice of Race and the promotional poster which you can use at your yacht club.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are still looking for volunteers to make this amazing event happen!
Remember, volunteers can be everything from parking and traffic
coordinators, to sausage sizzlers or on the water safety boat crews. You don’t need sailing experience to help! If you think you can assist, please register with us and we will endeavour to make use of your skills. Go to volunteer.blakeregatta.org.nz to register!
We look forward to seeing you at this year’s regatta!
Kind Regards
Regatta Committee
